About the Writers
Adam and Jon Meckler are brothers born in to the Black and Gold. Originally born Minnesotans, Adam, Jon, and their big sister Elizabeth (who rocks the black and gold hard) were raised by their die-hard Steelers fan parents to cheer on the Stillers no matter what. Their father and mother, Rick and Pam Meckler were both born and raised in Pittsburgh. They attended Oliver High School together, and married shortly thereafter. They lived in Pitt through the days of Bobby Lane and Ernie Stautner, when the Steelers were quite frankly a joke, only to find them pinching themselves during the beginning of the Steelers’ reign in football: the 1970’s. Just before Rick passed away on Super Bowl Sunday, February 1st 2009, (Yes, the same day our boys won Super Bowl 43 in maybe the most exciting game ever played) Tomlin signed a photo for him which read: “To Pittsburgh Rick – Mike Tomlin.” From hence we take our name, and from hence we draw our passion.
Jon Meckler now lives in Maccomb, IL where he represents Steeler Nation. He works tirelessly as a restaurant manager for Applebees, and is engaged to be married to his college sweet-heart.
Adam Meckler has returned to his place of birth and is an active member of the Steelers Fans of Minnesota (SFOM), who host viewings of every Steelers game all season (including preseason!) at McGovern’s Bar and Grille on W7th in St Paul, MN. Adam is an avid collector and has been building an impressive collection of antique Steelers football cards from the 1960s-70s, and other Steelers memorabilia from the past. Adam is also a jazz trumpet player and composer active in the Twin Cities music scene. You can check out his music at his official website: www.adammeckler.com. He is married to Twin Cities jazz singer/educator Jana Nyberg: www.janajazz.com.
